Existing Business Programs

Bedford County is proud of its business community and wishes to support and sustain a healthy diversified economy for generations to come. To that end, the County has dedicated both staff and resources to an economic development program that is firmly based on existing business work as well as new business development.

The Office of Economic Development serves as a resource center for the business community and makes every effort to be informative, responsive, and supportive in meeting and anticipating the needs of businesses by:

  • Business Appreciation Week – Recognized annually for the contribution that they make to the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Bedford County Office of Economic delivers a gift of appreciation to businesses throughout the community.
  • Business Directory – The directory both online and hardcopy is a free service to non-retail businesses operating in Bedford County with five (5) or more employees.
  • Business License – Bedford County does not require, nor does it provide applications for, a general County Business License. However, depending on the type of business you are opening, you may be required to apply for other specialty licenses or permits from Bedford County or the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Business Resources – A listing of local, regional, state, and federal contacts that assists businesses in starting a business to training and development.
  • Business Visitation – Provides an opportunity to assess the needs and specific trends affecting the business community.
  • Calendar – Information on upcoming business events and meetings.
  • Incentive Program – The program is made available to new and expanding companies in the manufacturing and service sector, provided that the criteria meets the appropriate levels for investment and job provision.
  • Newsletter – The newsletter is a highlight of news activities focused on the business community of Bedford County along with local and state information.
  • Roundtable Meetings – Roundtable meetings provide existing businesses the opportunity to meet with each other as well as County officials for an open and frank discussion on business concerns.
  • Workshops – A variety of workshops are offered to provide the tools and resources in assisting businesses to grow.
