Bedford County consists of 764 square miles located in west-central Virginia just east of the Roanoke metropolitan area. The Town of Bedford is situated on the U.S. 460 corridor midway between Roanoke to the west and Lynchburg and Campbell County to the east. The scenic Blue Ridge Mountains make up the county’s western border. The James River forms the northeast boundary and the beautiful 23,400–acre Smith Mountain Lake is situated to the south.
